Hello, Dolly!
The first ever Stardoll graphic novel is on sale today. Available physically and electronically.
If you don’t know, Stardoll is, according to their website: “The world’s largest online fashion and dress up games community for girls!” It has 200 million users worldwide. It’s “paperdoll heaven.”
Even I knew that, and I’m decades older and the opposite sex from their target audience, which is “…girls who love fashion, making friends, shopping, decorating and being creative.” Hmm. Reminds me of a certain Blog Elf I know.
And if you’re wondering, no, I did not sign up. I do not have my own “MeDoll.” If I did, my lack of fashion sense would probably get me thrown offline.
The GN, entitled “Secrets and Dreams,” features five amazing high school girls with style, grand dreams and a passion for fashion—each of whom has a closely guarded, shocking secret. Here’s a hint: one of them is a Were-fox. It isn’t all about trips to the mall. It’s dramatic and funny and full of intrigue with stylish outfits, to-die-for shoes and carefully coordinated accessories.
“Secrets and Dreams” was written, drawn and everything-elsed by JayJay Jackson, who is a Renaissance woman if ever there was one. I kibitzed a little.
I read it today. It’s a fun ride. If I had a daughter of appropriate age I would buy a copy for her. I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t mean it.
So, please have a look at the first graphic novel by our own star doll, JayJay. Blog Elf. Renaissance woman. Stealth girly-girl.

I preordered this and JayJay's second Stardoll book and am waiting for the former to arrive any day now from Amazon. It'll take a bit longer now that I've moved to Hawaii. The down side of paradise. Oh, well.

Welcome back, Mr. Shooter. It's been a while. I've gone on to create comics in a new and different way, that will be accessible to everyone, breaking them out of the direct market. It wasn't one of my plans, and it isn't how I envisioned things, but I'm doing it.

Welcome back Jim. We've missed hearing from you, but to be honest, you've been so generous to us so far in this blog that if you walked away and never gave us another post, we'd still be in your debt.
And as far as Stardoll goes, I don't know how I've missed it all this time since I have a nine year old daughter who is a virtual bullseye for this demographic-wise. I introduced her to the site just this weekend and she loved it. I figure I'll give her a few more weeks to get immersed in it and then feed her the graphic novels which, quite frankly, has been my long-term goal in this endeavor (I'll go to great lengths to get her to read things – unfortunately reading is not something that comes as naturally to her as it did for me at her age).
Actually, the time is such that I can probably get her the GNs for Christmas. She'll love the were-fox.

I was going through some stuff the other day and came across the Shadowman postcard you sent to me while I was In Saudi Arabia, all the way back in 1993. I remember thinking what wonderful thing it was, such a little thing, but it meant a lot to me that you would remember me and our conversation (casting for an imaginary Shadowman movie). Then I stumbled across your blog while researching some graphic novels for my daughter. Stardoll seems like a perfect match up, now to find a copy.

I just bought volume 2 of the Gold Key Dr. Solar comics. The forward in the volume was by you, which I thought was great. To love a character growing up and to finally take it into your reigns has to be such a satisfying feeling. I can't wait to finish reading the old Gold Key issues, then I'm going to collect all your VALIANT Solar issues and read those. I love this character and you serve him so much justice in your Dark Horse series. Thank you for writing such magnificent comics!
